Dr. Denise Faustman / Faustman Lab

I stumbled across Dr. Faustman when her adult clinical trial regarding BCG injections (read more here) came to light and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) had less than stellar remarks about the promise of the results. I saw the public's comments about the amazing amount of hope restored that one day there will actually be a cure for Diabetes.

And then, slowly, I stumbled across the quieter media articles regarding how little JDRF donates towards diabetes research towards a cure. I saw how much of the profits raised for them every single day get donated now towards better technology for diabetes management. And I further saw the staggering numbers demonstrating the wealth of the CEO of both organizations. For all intents and purposes, it seems JDRF only wants to better manage a life with diabetes; not to cure it.

So my hope is now with Dr. Denise Faustman as she continues her clinical trials. In 12-18 months, Dr. Faustman will begin clinical trials for the pediatric age group. In fact, I've been in touch with her research team and have registered Carter as a hopeful participant once they begin recruiting and screening for the trial. I am trying not to hold my breath for an invitation to be a part of this trial, but I can't help but hold an enormous amount of optimism. To know that someone wakes up every single day and works tirelessly to cure my son's Diabetes literally puts tears in my eyes. There really isn't anything I wouldn't give to see my youngest son live a life Diabetes-free.
